realMYST: Interactive 3D Edition was a real time 3D remake of the first game in the Myst franchise.

In 9462 DE (1806 CE), the Stranger finds a Myst Linking Book, and links there. Meeting Sirrus and Achenar in the red and blue Prison Books in the library, the Stranger visits four of Atrus's Ages to retrieve the red and blue pages for the brothers. In the end, the Stranger must choose who to free; Sirrus, Achenar, or the mysterious green book...

Should the Stranger choose correctly, they will be able to visit an additional Age, Rime, which helps set the stage for the next game, Riven.

Ages and locations visited[edit]

Changes from the original and Masterpiece Edition[edit]

Weather effects were also included in realMYST. Myst Island has a 30 minute day/night cycle, while Selenitic, Mechanical, and Stoneship's only last 15 minutes. A day/night cycle was planned for Channelwood and an early release photo showed Channelwood at night, though for an unknown reason it was left out of the game.

In addition to the content of the original, realMYST features an additional Age, Rime, to help bridge the gap between Myst and Riven. Many other smaller things were added, including a gravestone for Ti'ana.

  • For their April Fools Day joke in 2000, Cyan announced Myst Mayhem, a first person shooter real time 3D remake of the original game. The joke eventually lead to the announcement of realMYST.
