Email[edit]

Hey Vector, could you toss me a quick email: [email protected]

Account[edit]

Hi Vector, I'd like to register and contribute to the wiki. I suppose you would need my email adress for that, so is there any way to privately contact you? I wouldn't like to post it in public. --91.19.92.30 (dgelessus) 11:54, 3 July 2013 (CDT)

Bulleted and numbered lists[edit]

Hi, I'm having some issues seeing the bullet points or numbers of lists. Examples:

  • Not
  • A
  • Numbered
  • List
  1. Now
  2. A
  3. Numbered
  4. List

For me both of these just appear indented, like this:

Indentation of bulleted list
Indentation of numbered list

I've already tried to change my skin to Vector, but it didn't help. --dgelessus (talk · contribs) 02:22, 4 July 2013 (CDT)

MYSTAges and the D'ni Wikia[edit]

Hi Vector, I noticed that you are/were also active on the D'ni Wikia. On your profile there you say that MYSTAges is D'ni Wikia's "rival", but there's also some discussion on your talk page about some sort of collaboration or merging of the two wikis. That was from January though and you haven't updated your profile there since March, so I'd be interested in how things currently are between the two wikis and if any kind of collaboration would still be possible. --dgelessus (talk · contribs) 11:49, 12 July 2013 (CDT)

Ah, yes. The main reason I created MYSTAges was to be able to contribute to a Myst wiki. Since Mystlore was practically flawless, I began to search around to see what other wikis could use my assistance. I soon found D'ni, though I also found it to be deserted and in such poor condition that I figured creating a whole new one would be a lot easier. (It was.) Around November of 2012, (I created wikia MYSTAges in August) I noticed that people were starting to edit D'ni again so I began to consider merging the two together. Long story short, we really got around to it and I eventually moved it off wikia to here.
So that's practically it. Apart for me helping out there occasionally, there hasn't been much discussion between the two.

Transcluding non-template pages[edit]

BTW, you can also transclude normal pages like templates. Just type {{:PAGENAME}} (note the colon). That way you can leave the main page parts where they were. Example:

Greetings and welcome to MYSTAges, a wiki for everything about Myst, Uru, and the D'ni civilization.
Before editing, please read the Manual of Style and disclaimer.
Should you decide to edit on MYSTAges, we strongly encourage you to create an account.

Oh, I was unaware of that. Thanks for letting me know.

Some things about infobox infos[edit]

Hi, just wanted to ask a few things about the infos in the infoboxes. First of all, I've noticed that Uru: Complete Chronicles is sometimes listed under the appearances. Is there really any need for that? Uru:CC doesn't have more content than ABM + To D'ni + TPotS, so it seems kind of redundant to me.

Secondly, almost every infobox has an "Appearances in" line, but almost all articles also have a "Featured in" section outside of the box. What would you think about removing the section at the bottom of the article? It is exactly the same information as in the box, and the box has a smaller font, so it takes up less space there. --dgelessus (talk · contribs) 07:36, 25 July 2013 (CDT)

Yes, I agree with you about removing the Uru: CC section, though I'm not sure about removing the featured section. Practically everything else in the infobox is usually stated also somewhere else in the article. Not to mention its useful for articles that don't have infoboxes (like all the speech pages).

Main page update[edit]

Hi, you may have noticed that I've been working on my personal copy of the Main Page a bit. Most of the changes are just small layout and style improvements - most notably I've managed to make the boxes flow independently, meaning that a large box on the left won't leave a large whitespace after a small box on the right.

I've also added a small stats box, but it looks kind of alone, because it has no counterpart on the other side. I thought about putting it next to the welcome box or merging the two, but I'm not quite sure about that.

If you agree with the changes and improvements, would you mind putting it on the actual main page? --dgelessus (talk · contribs) 12:37, 27 July 2013 (CDT)

Done, I've been thinking about adding a "browse" section to the page, so that should go well next to the stats.

Images from an iPad[edit]

Hi, by the way you can take screenshots on iDevices by holding the Home button and while doing so, pressing the lock button. The screenshot will then land in the camera roll. --dgelessus (talk · contribs) 18:29, 14 August 2013 (CDT)

Navboxes[edit]

Hi, you may have noticed me playing around with navboxes a bit in my userspace. I've tried to simplify the very complicated Template:Navbox on User:Dgelessus/Navbox - most of the old functionality is still there, except for some things that don't necessarily have to be in the navbox itself (side images, notes above and below). Also, I've implemented a line system similar to Template:Infobox/Line and configured the style by default. Old navboxes should still work, although most parameters won't be necessary anymore. While at it, I also created/copied Template:FlipBox - a box with an expand/collapse button, which I also integrated into User:Dgelessus/NavFlipBox to make a collapsible navbox.

If you're fine with the changes I've made, tell me and I'll move the template over and make it use the correct namespace. And if you have any suggestions, I can see if I could implement those as well. --dgelessus (talk · contribs) 16:58, 24 August 2013 (CDT)

Greetings
They look fine, so go ahead an apply them!

Allowing SVGs[edit]

Hi, could you maybe allow uploading of SVG vector graphics? The Cyan logo is one, and they are in general quite useful for icons in boxes and such. --dgelessus (talk · contribs) 13:28, 26 August 2013 (CDT)

Everything is blank[edit]

Hi, if you're looking at this page then you can probably tell what's wrong - every page on the wiki has no content. If you look at the HTML source of the page, the main content div is just empty. You can still access the wikitext by clicking "edit", so it's still in the database, but somehow it's not properly rendered into the page. Could you look into this? --dgelessus (talk · contribs) 19:15, 24 March 2016 (CDT)

Hey, thanks for making the pages visible again :) Even it it's the default skin, people can use the wiki again now. Good luck figuring out where the issue is with the custom skin (assuming that's what's causing it). Also thanks for taking care of the recent spambot wave, let's hope they go away soon. --dgelessus (talk · contribs) 18:23, 28 March 2016 (CDT)

Events box on main page[edit]

You might (or might not) have noticed the recent templates I've been making for D'ni date/time conversion; you may also have noticed that I've created a new Main Page section at Main Page/Events that I think might be suitable for inclusion on the main page.(?) The box displays the current D'ni date and time (though only updated when the page cache refreshes), as well as any upcoming (in the next 29 yahrtee) D'ni holidays and anniversaries, and the current event, if there is one. There's also a link to the Timeline. I experimented with implementing it into the main page at User:Tel'aris Eru/Main Page (and moved the News box to the right-hand column to compensate).

I realise you may be busy at the moment; there's certainly no rush, but I would like to hear what you think of it / its potential inclusion, whenever you get the chance! :) --Tel'aris Eru (talk · contribs) 11:57, 20 September 2017 (CDT)

Regarding the recent edits by an anonymous user[edit]

Over the past ten days, there has been a sudden influx of low-quality anonymous edits (largely page creations, though more recently edits to existing pages) from some individual in Australia (separate from the usual spam this wiki receives).

(IP addresses used so far by this person are: 106.69.236.227; 101.186.47.8; 58.7.184.203; 203.161.120.85; 58.7.82.250; and 220.253.208.98)

Whilst some of the page creations appear to have been... possibly in good faith ("Tower rotation", "Voltanic", "Squee"), others are obviously not in good faith, with some pages clearly constituting spam ("Dirt uru live", "Gehn's imager", "Slam it shut", "Moiety temple", "Obduction", among others; please see Category:Deletion Requests). Additionally, many of this person's recent edits to existing pages clearly constitute vandalism (their edits to Catherine's Wrong Door Speech, Oren, and Yeesha's Tomahna Journal).

I left a message on the talk page of the user's current IP address yesterday, though the user did not respond (it's not clear whether or not they actually saw it), and continued to make destructive edits today.

dgelessus and myself have been reverting this user's edits or adding the PleaseDelete template to their pages where appropriate, though neither of us have administrative privileges on MYSTAges, and so cannot actually delete the pages, or ban the offending IP addresses. I'd personally recommend banning the IP addresses of this user - if they want to make constructive edits, they can create an account. --Tel'aris Eru (talk · contribs) 05:31, 18 October 2017 (CDT)
