This article is about the animal found in the jungles of Negilahn. For the similar-looking creature seen in the deserts of Payiferen, see sandscrit.
"Though "urwins" are technically birds, they can't fly! However, with all the "kiri" around, they don't need to. "Urwins" are the only of Negilahn's inhabitants that mate for life and are often seen in pairs."

An urwin (pl. urwins or urwintee) is a type of animal found in the jungles of Negilahn, in the Pod Age, where they are sometimes visible from the Negilahn pod. They are a species of flightless birds, and are fairly large when compared with a human – on average several times the height of a human. The urwin population, along with the populations of the other animals indigenous to Negilahn, dropped after the beginning of the Bahro Civil War, as the Bah'ro Nekisahl slaughtered large numbers of the location's animals for unclear reasons.

Urwins' sole source of sustenance is kiri, which they consume using the baleen in their mouths. They are the only animal species in Negilahn that mate for life.

The following section is written from an Out-of-Cavern (OOC) perspective. All fictional events should be considered fictional.
  • During the development of Myst V: End of Ages, an urwin, over twice the size of the ones in Negilahn, was planned to appear in Direbo, though it was never implemented, due to time constraints.
