Esher was a member of the D'ni Guild of Zoologists and one of the few D'ni who survived its fall.

Early life and exile on Noloben[edit]

Esher was born and raised in the D'ni City during its final days. He was a member of the Guild of Zoologists and one of the few who escaped during the fall when he fled to the Age of Noloben. There, he discovered the Bahro, as that was one of their home Ages, who did not take Esher's arrival too kindly. He began experiments on them and later tortured some of the Bahro as to discover how they could link without a book, and eventually removed the shoulder skin from one of them, using which he could link at will.

Later, he attempted to take the Quest to unlock the Tablet but failed.

D'ni Restoration Council[edit]

During the DRC's First Restoration of the city and the Ages, one of the Ages they visited was Noloben. During one of her trips there, Marie Sutherland met Esher and told him of the restoration. Esher was against the idea of letting outsiders rebuild D'ni, and while he would not tell them his name, he did reveal much about the Bahro.

Dr. Watson[edit]

When Dr. Watson took the quest, Esher appeared several times to try and manipulate Watson into bringing the tablet to Myst Island so Watson could give it to him. However, Watson decided to give the tablet to the Bahro and free them. Later, when Atrus and Yeesha were thanking Watson in Releeshahn, two Bahro appeared with Esher, inquiring what to do with him. Yeesha then told them to "do with him as they should to the least." One of the Bahro then linked out with Esher, leaving his fate unknown.

Esher is a proud D'ni who longs to see his home rebuilt, unaware of the new D'ni home, Releeshahn. He blames Yeesha's great-grandmother Ti'ana for D'ni's fall and for that he despises her.

The following sections are written from an Out-of-Cavern (OOC) perspective. All fictional events should be considered fictional.

Role in the franchise[edit]

Esher appears only in Myst V: End of Ages, where he serves as the antagonist, though is also mentioned in a note by Marie Sutherland in Uru: Ages Beyond Myst (and Uru Live).

Esher's voice and facial features were provided by David Ogden Stiers, who also voiced Jeff Zandi in Uru: Ages Beyond Myst and Dr. Watson in Uru: To D'ni. The motion capture for Esher's animations was performed by Rand Miller.
