Riven: The Sequel to Myst

"It appears to be a linking book back here to D'ni, but it's actually a one-man prison. You'll need it, I'm afraid, to capture Gehn."

The D'ni Prison Book was a Prison Book that Atrus wrote to capture Gehn. It appears to be a linking book to the D'ni cavern, though it is slightly modified so it is a one man prison. When he sent the Stranger to Riven, he gave the book to him, though shortly after arriving on Riven, it was taken by the Moiety. After Catherine inspected it, she realized it was a trap book and told Nelah to return it, which she did when the stranger discovered Tay. After the stranger found Gehn's 233rd age, he tricked Gehn into using the book, thus trapping him forever.

Non-canon debate[edit]

Due to the fact that prison books were classified as non-canon, that means that the trap book linked to an actual age, not a black void as seen in Riven. Based on the linking panel, it can be assumed that the age was very similar to K'veer. This also means that the method the stranger used to trap Gehn (by linking in, with him linking in after) could not work, meaning the Stranger had to come up with some other method to trick Gehn into using the book.
